Bangladesh, like so many developing
populous countries has serious education needs. While many parents value
learning, the child's education is of little relevance to their lives.
Why do some parents not enrol their children? Poverty and illiteracy of parents lack of awareness schools too far away
Why is there such a high drop-out rate? Poorly trained teachers no teaching aids too little time actually teaching children not prepared for school overcrowding insufficient teachers for girls no toilets for girls children needed to earn family income

A non-government "school-under-the-sky", funded primarily by UK
donations, helps prepare impoverished children for "real" school!
A government classroom - the upraised hands are children who previously
attended a "school-under-the-sky."
Children without an education and from impoverished families are
found all around. Many do menial labour, while some resort to begging,
others scavenge what they can find in rubbish piles or out of open drains,
yet others live in hope at the train station.
